In My Mirror - The Face of Jesus
Human Like Me - Deity of God

Introduction

Birth? Of Course!!

Ok, first things first, He started out his earthly life in the womb. No kidding. When we think of a baby in the womb, we don’t believe he or she knows much about what’s going on outside of that little living space. But consider John the Baptist:

When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!" Luke 1:41-45 (New International Version)

John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit from birth (Luke 1:15) – he knew that Mary was carrying our Savior even as he was in the womb. Once John the Baptist leaped, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit as well. Can you imagine the adrenaline rush? Your life being so directly impacted by two unborn babies - that you were filled with the Holy Spirit instantly?

Powerful stuff, don’t you think?

How many times have you heard the statement that Jesus was human, yet He was God?

I always found it hard to wrap my head around this concept, but I have heard it since I was a toddler – I can’t even remember when I heard it for the first time.

The purpose of this book is to expound upon the humanity of Jesus. I believe we all know he was human, but we don’t really understand just how human He was. The attributes of Jesus discussed in the following chapters are gathered primarily from the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John – I’m sure you’ve heard these stories of Christ’s life. My hope is that you will come away from each chapter with a new understanding of how much his life on earth was like your own.

For me, having a real understanding of the human side of my Savior helps me when I find myself at the foot of the cross on a daily basis. No matter what I am going through, he has been there already.

While searching through the scriptures, I have found Jesus in many of the same places that I have been in my own life. When I look into the mirror, I see Jesus looking back. It is my sincere hope that you will find him there too.

Thank you for joining me on this search for Him.

Your Face is The Reflection of Jesus

Images of Jesus are based upon many of the paintings which we have enjoyed for years. “The Last Supper” by Leonardo di Vinci is one of the most vivid images of Jesus Christ that comes to mind. Seeing a picture of Jesus at the table with the disciples enjoying supper and one another’s company as well, is probably the most well known of all of our pictures of Jesus.

There are many other commonly recognized pictures of Jesus Christ, from the one where he is kneeling praying in the garden to the one where he stands knocking at the door.

Jesus was human like me, I see his image when I look in the mirror – after all, that is the goal, isn’t it? Becoming like him.

Please take a moment to reflect on the mosaic – which incorporates our images into the sketch of Jesus below. All photos are used by permission.
